That's crazy! Ever see the movie "Courage Under Fire" with Meg Ryan? There's footage of a tank battle at the beginning that shows how insane it is being part of a tank crew.

Amazing what a little heat will do.

Forcing me, Schmoe, to inform my readers that "heat" stands for a:
High
Explosive
Anti-
Tank round. Thanks for the prompt my friend!

Active armer, nomex (or equivelant) uniforms and active anti-missie defense changes all that.

In the Yom Kippur war, most israeli tank casualties were caused by burns. They implemented a number of changes and haven't had crews burned to death since.

Of course, it helps when your avowedd enemy doesn't ahve helicopters. However, his anti-tank missiles weren't effective in Gaza, either.

Thanks, I'll take my chances out in the open as a grunt.

Minimal target value, no radar reflecting qualities, and MUCH easier to clean up afterwards...
