When Guns Are Outlawed...

In California, who Represents my son?

Bring yourself up to speed on the new piece I bought for Big Bubba when he passed his CCW course last year. We're still trying to find a legal way to put the gun in his hand in CA. Chatting with a Federal Firearms licensee there, BB was directed to this site.
(His new handgun IS NOT listed there, and therefore the "Powers that be" would like it to be illegal in the State.)

Seems to me the operative statement there is in the first paragraph:
"Effective January 1, 2001, no handgun may be manufactured within California, imported into California for sale, lent, given, kept for sale, or offered/exposed for sale unless that handgun model has passed firing, safety, and drop tests and is certified for sale in California by the Department of Justice. Private party transfers, curio/relic handguns, certain single-action revolvers, and pawn/consignment returns are exempt from this requirement."

Look at that last sentence...
"Private party transfers.... are exempt"!
If the gun is a bona-fide gift from me, that's certainly a "Private party transfer", isn't it?
(And of course, all this is changed by the latest Supreme Court ruling isn't it?)

calguns.net has a couple of flow charts to determine which guns are legal in CA. You can also check on how to do the transfer (which must be done by an FFL). Ask questions in the FFL group.

You can even find an FFL in Big Bubba's area from the site.

McDonald (the recent SCOTUS ruling) doesn't change this.

Thanks Jack. The link I posted is listed at the site you cite.
But still, "Private party transfers" is pretty clear, isn't it?

Sounds the same to me as it does to you. I'd suggest you register it and then gift it to your son, which brings about the 'transfer' part of the exemption.

What's so hard about 'shall not be abridged'...

I've had guns in Fornicalia for such a long time that there are no links to my purchases or my ownership. And not only do I prefer it that way but I purposely avoid licensing and registration.

I've got at least 20 guns no one knows nothing about.

I am the last of the ignored classes.

Purposely.

I think I would have to be pretty darn hungry before I'd move to Calipornia.

Aside from the totalitarian gun laws, the taxes are insane. Not to mention the Governator, who is a more obvious democrat in republican clothing than Arlen Spectacle was.

Good luck hacking through the red tape.
