R.I.P., U.S.A.?

I'll paraphrase the question posed at the post here:
What circumstance would move you to violent action against our government?
I was surprised and dismayed to see several comments similar to this one-

How big would a moral outrage have to be before you turned to violence? Big. A clear threat to the core freedoms of my family, with no viable alternative options (like leaving the country). Life isn’t exactly miserable in the US, despite all the crap. What prevents you from acting violently up to that point?High personal cost, the ability to live a good, relatively free life now, and the availability of other viable options (like leaving the country or going ‘underground’).

Leave the country?
Yes, he said one of his options was to leave the country!

What in Hell has happened to us? The bastion of freedom... the country millions are willing to risk their lives and break the law by crossing a desert border illegally is indeed being "changed" by our present leadership. I continue to be heartened by the number of patriots willing to raise their right hand and swear "to support and defend the Constititution" in our military. But I also have a growing sense of resignation about the decline of our country that I can only compare to the last two years of the Carter administration.
God help us.

After signing the Declaration of Independence, Benjamin Franklin reportedly said to other signers-
"We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."
Funny stuff, but deadly serious too. He and all those who signed that document knew his statement was true. And it's true today too... we need to be forming associations with like-minded people and making plans.
Most all of our "Founding Fathers" were well-to-do and could easily have fled the country, but flee to where? Where could they have gone to exercise the freedoms they were seeking? How would things have changed for the better if they hadn't taken a stand?
That is the condition I find myself in today. I HATE what is happening to my country, but tucking my tail between my legs and running is out of the question...
Where would I go that is better?

So I'll also stand. No buggin' out for me.
I certainly hope I don't have to fight...
Been there. Done that. Didn't like it much.

But it's an interesting question... "What would it take...?"
You can read my answer in the comments at the link to the post above. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

The government is afraid of the guns people have because they have to have control of the people at all times. Once you take away the guns, you can do anything to the people. You give them an inch and they take a mile. I believe we are slowly turning into a socialist government. The government is continually growing bigger and more powerful, and the people need to prepare to defend themselves against government control.

Taxes are a joke. Regardless of what a political candidate “promises,” they will increase. More taxes are always the answer to government mismanagement. They mess up. We suffer. Taxes are reaching cataclysmic levels, with no slowdown in sight. Go ahead, take everything I own; take my dignity. Feel good as you grow fat and rich at my expense; sucking my tax dollars and property, tax dollars which justify your existence and pay your federal salary. Do you get it? By doing your evil job, you put me out of work. All of you will swing in the wind one day for your treasonous actions against the Constitution of the United States. Remember the Nuremberg War Trials. “But…but…but…I only followed orders…” Die, you spineless cowardice bastards.

I reached the decision to go on the offensive - to put a check on government abuse of power, where others had failed in stopping the federal juggernaut running amok. I wish to use the words of Justice Brandeis dissenting in Olmstead to speak for me. He wrote, “Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example.”

Those who betray or subvert the Constitution are guilty of sedition and/or treason, are domestic enemies and should and will be punished accordingly. It also stands to reason that anyone who sympathizes with the enemy or gives aid or comfort to said enemy is likewise guilty. I have sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and I will. And I will because not only did I swear to, but I believe in what it stands for in every bit of my heart, soul and being. I know in my heart that I am right in my struggle. I have come to peace with myself, my God and my cause. Blood will flow in the streets…Good vs. Evil. Free Men vs. Socialist Wannabe Slaves. Pray it is not your blood, my friend. Is a Civil War imminent? Do we have to shed blood to reform the current system? I hope it doesn’t come to that. But it might.

A man with nothing left to lose is a very dangerous man and his energy/anger can be focused toward a common/righteous goal. What I’m asking you to do, then, is sit back and be honest with yourself. Do you have kids/wife? Would you back out at the last minute to care for the family? Are you interested in keeping your firearms for their current/future monetary value, or would you drag that ‘06 through rock, swamp and cactus…to get off the needed shot? In short, I’m not looking for talkers, I’m looking for fighters

My tipping point?

"It is important to note that "if you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we'd be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world".

So says President Barack Obama."

I suppose you could say that my belief in God, my belief in Christ, and my freedom to worship how I choose are more important than all the other things this country would give me. But, those other things are also very important. I will not stand quietly by and watch the backward teachings of Islam destroy everything I believe in.

I still have hope, however. The mood of the nation is changing. Americans are a curious breed and I believe that those who feel the way we do outnumber those who wish this country serious, permanent harm.

Remember - four years of Jimmy Carter led to eight years of Ronald Reagan.

Ok, I have to be honest GB. I know it's a rhetorical question, but some of this "violent action against the govenment" discussion makes me a little nervous.

Let me make it clear I am NOT in any stretch of the imagination questioning your patriotism here. I know you, like my husband fought for this country.

I believe in the absolute right to bear arms, so don't misunderstand me there either.

So, just for discussion and clarification, I cannot imagine violent action against our government would be warranted.

Wait, I just thought of some instance.

Kent State.

Where the National Guard killed students for simply protesting.

So, after commenting away, I guess I can see a circumstance.

If that kind of governmental interaction began, where it became the policy of the "thought police" to kill demonstrators, then I could see that our country had evolved into something the founders abhored.

Ok, so you convinced me after all that given SOME circumstances that might be necessary. When it starts becoming Nazi Germany.

But I believe that we believers in the Constitution would have long before taken the call to get ourselves elected to the congress, senate and presidential branches before that would happen.

Even in this day, I'm still an optimist that the American people will never let that happen.

Hope I'm not just being naive.

You're nervous Rita?
Good. Nervous means alert. Nervous means ready to take action.

The subject of the post was about how the country seems to have changed. Rather than resist the effort to change the country in ways we could not have imagined just a few years ago, folks are talking about surrender...
Leaving without a whimper to leave the rest of us to resolve the problem. Where are today's Nathan Hales?

Did you read the link and the comments there?
CJ's comment above is as valid for me as is my comment at the linked post. Another trigger might be the way our schools are forced to teach our children, which is already appalling at the secondary school level and, in my opinion, a Socialist indoctrination at the college level.
Religion, speech, property, and the right to bear arms...
Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm beginning to see an "us versus them" situation beginning to form, and I think we should be on guard for further attempts to usurp our freedoms.

Rita said...

I absolutely believe there is an "us vs them" situation and I absolutely believe the current adminstration has an agenda to turn this country into a socialist one.

I just still have the optimistic believe that Americans will begin in large numbers to see what is happening and put a curb to it SOON.

In Indiana, Evan Bayh was a decent Governor. We elected him as a senator where he promptly did everything all the democrats asked him too.

I plan on finally getting involved heavily in a campaign for his opponent for the first time in my life when he's up for re-election

I believe this the next congressional and senate election will reverse ALOT of the last one. So, in essense I agree with CJ. There will be severe backlash, so, as I said, I'm an optimist that believes that this country will NOT turn to socialism like a bunch of sheep. Much like the stories you're hearing now about people NOT wanting the terrorists in GITMO to be released, much less in their own backyard.

Oh, believe me, I would not leave this country without a whimper. I would stand up and fight for my country to defend freedom. But I believe the quickest method currently available is to get rid of the scum in Washington. All of them. Oust them out, one by one. And do your part to help get the right people elected.

And yes, I think particularly the colleges teach socialism and hatred for the United States.

I will never leave this country.

Let the SOBs who are trying to scare us into submitting to their will leave - I was here first.

They WILL NOT scare me off, nor will they get away with scaring my family or friends.

Tipping point? We're on the tipping point. The fulcrum is named Obama.

Let's all remember that there is the beginning of a non-violent civil war taking place.

States are beginning to take back their rights.

People are beginning to gather in protest.

So far we haven't had much of an effect but it is a beginning. I take heart in the signs I'm seeing.

Rita, have you checked out Glenn Beck's 912 Project? His 'we are not alone' has real meaning.

CJ: I have the 9/12 Project on my facebook fan list.

As absolutely devastated as I was after 9/11, watching the U.S. Congress singing God Bless America on the steps of the Capital building convinced me that nearly all politicians are out to make themselves look good for the voters.

No one will ever convince me that these people spontaneously broke out into song because they were suddenly overwhelmed with patriotism.

Excluding Congress, I believe we "normal" Americans were never more united. Especially after Bush's speech.

Sorry GB, I may have gotten off topic here.

You, like CJ, get the brunt of my political side because I am trying, trying, trying to keep by blog off of politics.

But it's very very difficult to do given the state of America today.

There is something we all share with Grimshaw:
"Leaving the country" is somewhere in the genetic lineage of just about every citizen.

After all, that's how someone with a name like Grimshaw came to be American in the first place.
