Be Careful What You Wish For-

When I've expressed my concerns before, they've been called "exaggerated" or "overblown", and I actually hoped I was wrong.
I wasn't wrong.

You know the old saying, "All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing"?
Remember it.
Say it loud.
Say it again and again.

We are facing a very dangerous time in the country. Certain factions have bandied the terms "fascist" and "murderer" around so often and for so long, those words may have become meaningless to them, or they may have forgotten the true meaning of the words.
The same people that used them are now threatening and assaulting their fellow citizens.

Read this.
Read it carefully.
Click and read the links.
Then realize, we are about to be represented by a democrat House of Representatives, a democrat Senate, and a democrat President who will likely nominate at least two activist Supreme Court Justices during his term...
Justices who are SUPPOSED to protect the freedom of speech of ALL citizens.

Hope and Change?
We're certainly getting the change.
And the thugs that resorted early in the Bush administration to allusion and nasty name-calling are HOPING for more of this.
God help us ALL to see the light.

Now *that's* a storm trooper, RNC '08. I can't stay away, you make me laugh. The guy in your video was just being an a**hole.

Unfortunately, speaking professionally, the guy refused to obey an order given to him by a uniformed police officer. The next step is always jail.

And, his going into that crowd, in Philly reminds me of the limitation on free speech - you can't shout fire in a crowded theater.

It's just not smart, ya know? And the cops didn't want to see something ugly get started.

Okay, I need your help CJ, 'cause this is the first time I've had a major disagreement with your thoughts.
I cannot shout "fire" in a crowded theater because the ensuing panic might cause loss of life or limb. I understand that perfectly.
And I cannot agree that this situation is analogous.

Is the guy in the video stupid?
Sure.
Will he change any minds with this action?
Ha.

But should I have the right to have someone arrested just because they say or do something offensive to me in a public place?
If so, we should have been arresting Code Pink idiots long ago. But we didn't, and we don't.
I risked my life for their right to express their dissenting thoughts, no matter how stupid I might think they are.

We need to be very careful during the upcoming months, folks...
And our Peace Officers need to be ESPECIALLY careful to not overstep.

Our freedoms TRULY ARE at stake.

No arguments from me on the dangers to free speech. I know you know that.

But, looking at things from a purely professional viewpoint -

Anyone going into a crowd like that, in my opinion is either stupid or looking to cause trouble. Either way, as a cop, it's my job to make sure there is no trouble. A celebrating crowd can be turned into a lynch mob in the blink of an eye. At this point, I'm not thinking about free speech, I'm thinking about getting home at the end of my shift in one piece and preventing anyone from dying. You heard how ugly the crowd was getting in the background.

So, as I cop, I tell the guy, you don't belong here, go away. You do anything else besides going away and you go to jail.

The fire in a crowded theater analogy made sense to me because the results are usually the same - chaos and rioting and people getting hurt and maybe dead.

All things cops do not want to see. Ever.

So, basically, it was the situation that caused the problem. That crowd was already volatile and that yahoo wandering around in his McCain shirt was going to eventually be the spark that set off an ugly incident. And I've got to think that might've been the intent.

The Code Pink wackos have never amount to the same type of situation. Now, the idiots who tried to block Governor Palin's motorcade should've all gone to jail.

Hope this helps.
