Bush Lied! Ummm, Well... Nevermind!

...."We have been hearing from the far-left for more than five years how, 'Bush lied.' Somehow, that slogan loses its credibility now that 550 metric tons of Saddam’s yellowcake, used for nuclear weapon enrichment, has been discovered and shipped to Canada for its new use as nuclear energy.

It appears that American troops found the 550 metric tons of uranium in 2003 after invading Iraq. They had to sit on this information and the uranium itself, for fear of terrorists attempting to steal it. It was guarded and kept safe by our military in a 23,000-acre site with large sand beams surrounding the site."

Since you won't see this on MSNBC, you can read the whole shebang
here.

C'mon! I'm no Rube!
Everyone knows we invaded Iraq to steal their oil!
If you agree, do this:

Put your fingers in your ears, close your eyes, and chant with me...
"Saddam was NO threat! Saddam was NO threat!"

a) uranium was not weapons grade

b) was well known to the UN and IAEA and was being stored legally by Saddam’s government. It was legally in Iraq according to international law.

I knew someone would say those things. I just knew it!

a) I'm always amazed at how smart and brave
"anonymous" is. I'm considering not publishing anonymous comments!

b) Let's connect the dots, shall we? We know Saddam's #1 nuclear expert had buried (on his property) information on how to refine all that 550 metric tons into weapons grade material, so what do you suppose Saddam intended to do with all that crap the MOMENT the inspectors quit looking around the country, anonymous?

c) Amazing.

Hey bud that was actually me. My settings on blogger got erased and I punched in my email address in the identity box assuming it would recognize me. oh well.

The fact that this administration asserted that he had illegal WMDs and we have yet to find them still make this war dumb. If we're going to invade every country on those presumptions then why haven't we invaded other countries? Iraq posed no imminent threat to our country in the *global terrorism* sense the way Al Qaeda based in Afghanistan did. Afghanistan I can defend and justify but Iraq not so much.

So we found something we knew was going to be there. Amazing indeed!

Yeah, we haven't found them. (Actually we have, in small numbers.)
But we know they were there, don't we? He used them on his own people... you even admitted that.

Here's what I don't understand from smart young folks like yourself:
All of our allies intelligence forces also thought they were there.
Bill Clinton said he had 'em.
John Kerry thought he had 'em.
Hillary Clinton thought he had 'em.
Barack Obama was probably in a meeting with Tony Rezko when the briefing took place, or he'd have thought they had 'em.
(I kid.) Obama hasn't been around the Senate long enough to know where the bathrooms are.

So Rodolfo tell me this. How can this stash of yellowcake be "discovered" in 2003 if we knew it was there all the time?
What do you think Saddam intended to do with 550(!) metric tons of yellowcake?
I want answers to those questions.

But that's not my point though. During the run-up to war this administration said everything from Iraq having WMDs to Al Qaeda ties to mushroom clouds. Does having a stash of yellowcake constitute an imminent threat?

Sure you could argue it being a *potential* but then I'd say it wasn't imminent. Invading Iraq was a bad move because they didn't pose an imminent threat. It was also poorly planned and lacked any plan with what to do once we *break it*.

Saddam Hussein was destined for the dustbin of irrelevant history regardless if we invaded or not. I just felt (feel) there were (are) many more serious issues we Americans face here domestically to get involved in two foreign wars simultaneously. This isn't about pro-war vs anti-war. It just doesn't make any sense to start another war when Afghanistan barely got started.

I'd love for us to find those weapons. I'd love to find Bin Laden. I don't care if this happens before President Bush leaves office. I don't care if he gets vindicated and I have a reason to shut down my dissent. More importantly I'd hate to see this country so divided and economically vulnerable. That's more important to me than any ideological battle.

The danger of being a divided nation leaves us susceptible to being conquered.

Forget it, GB -- you won't get a sensible answer outta him.

Thanx Andrea, but I think this one is worth saving. I gotta try.

So R... YOU THINK they weren't an imminent threat?
That's comforting.
Experts from several countries that have been sleuthing around longer than you've been eating Big Macs would disagree.
I'm sorry, but your opinion doesn't carry much water with me.

Let me ask again and see if I can extract an answer. What do you think Saddam intended to do with that yellowcake? (No Betty Crocker jokes allowed!)

Honestly I don't know. And maybe that's a cop-out but I just never thought seriously about how to build bombs. Bu I'll take your word for it.

Okay I'll agree with you that he intended to make WMDs with the cake. That cake still doesn't pose a threat to me unless it's actually turned into a WMD. I think of it just like fuel. It's potential energy stored in the fuel tank but unless converted into actual energy I got no problem with it sitting in the tank collecting microbes. I've seen a couple GA aircraft sitting in hangers that probably will never fly again.

Now could this dumb pilot (Saddaam) decide one day to go turn the ignition and go flying. Sure he could absolutely without a doubt.

But here's my point. I think we had him contained where he was. It would have been imminent in my opinion if Al Qaeda (or whoever) was the hypothetical flight instructor teaching Saddaam how and when to use this potential energy.

But we've learned there was no credible connection between the two groups. In fact if I remember correctly they were of differing tribe (Sunni vs Shia) The fact that our President and others *insisted* that these two were training together when the evidence now shows the contrary is what pisses me off.

So now we got a guy with a bunch of cake with no real means of harnessing it because we (the hypothetical FAA guy) do ramp checks all day on them.

Now I'd much rather do individual ramp checks than send the entire FED for one guy. It just doesn't make any sense.

But let's say we follow your advice and *stay the course*. How is that gonna help our economy? I'm all for protecting innocent Iraqis but I gotta take care of my American family first. So if we pull out and sh*t hits the fan over there (more than it is now) is it gonna concern me a little? Sure. But not as much as how bad I'd feel if Americans were suffering economically.

We can't take care of other people if we don't take care of our own house first. that's just my take man.
