Ya know Sarah, you could very well be right...
Had I known that Obama would renege on virtually every major campaign promise before he even took office, I MIGHT HAVE VOTED FOR HIM...
Let's hope he continues to stick it in the eye of his far-left supporters!

If anybody paid attention to what Obama 'said' during the campaign, nothing he is doing now would be a surprise. Pragmatism is what he promised and that doesn't come from either extreme. As to the Parade piece, if it'd been Bush or Palin, the right would eat it up. I see both sides taking snips at Obama and he hasn't even gotten in yet. Hopefully he can be as oblivious to criticism as Palin or Bush as if it bothered him, he'd be handicapped to start. You can't please everybody or often anybody in that world.

Always the optimist, huh rain?
I like that.

But I have a question for you, and I'll make it easy to answer...
Rather than enumerate the promises he has already indicated he'll break, and those on which he's backpedaling like crazy, please tell me-
Which promises do you think he'll keep?
(And please, unlike Zero, be specific.)

I think he'll close Gitmo, stop torturing as a government policy, get our fighting men out of Iraq in two years (which Bush would have done also), might get us into a worse war in Afghanistan (but that is something that is iffy anyway), probably do a tax cut for the middle class (which I think is a mistake), maybe allow military men who are gay to not have to hide it (sexual harassment is still punishable), but you know I don't see him as a messiah and he might upset me with that he does. Not as much as Sarah Palin would have though. If you will notice, I have not been jumping up and down with glee before the inauguration. I hope for the best, like some of his picks for cabinet and have reservations about others, but I am an old woman and well aware that often things don't work as I would hope.

Incidentally, having read your blog and comments, I like you :) You are a nice man. You and I do disagree on politics but good people can do that. And your cookie recipe has been very popular whenever I have given out the cookies which I do now and again for mental health :)

I wouldn't have so much trouble with this letter being published if Obama hadn't already whined about his lack of privacy.

You can't have it both ways.

And Rain, it seems to me that the Bushes have kept their relationship with their daughters pretty private.

The Bush daughters seem to be coming out fine young women. They got a ton of publicity early on as they went through their wilding years but did nothing that many young people don't do. To me they seem like nice young women.

All presidential families have pictures out of their children and often the ideal family portrait-- ideal family or not. The problem Obamas will face is that they are 'different' and their daughters are gorgeous. That was what led to so much attention on the Bush daughters and they got their share of family stories back then.

You remind me of the time when one of the twins had to have her appendix removed. Laura canceled her vacation (if I remember right fishing with the extended family in Florida or something like that) to be by her side in the hospital. George did not. It got full news coverage. It will be hard not to have the same happen and maybe more with the Obama girls, who are a much younger and more vulnerable age for it to hurt them. Every move will be watched-- on both sides. Maybe the Obamas recognize it and are trying to circumvent it with some controlled coverage to avoid the uncontrolled-- lotsa luck in our paparazzi driven society.
