Silence

The most serious fuel crisis of my life...
The annual inflation rate at nearly 20%...
Mortgage rates so high, no one could contemplate buying a home...
Hostages being held in Iran, and a failed military rescue attempt...
U.S. morale so low, the bottom looked like up!

You sir, are an idiot, and would do well to shut your pie hole.

Way to go, Greybeard.

I was trying to think of a response to His Incompetence but you've done far better.

What's the story with this guy GB? Why is he so hated by some people yet others say he was the last decent president we had? In your view, can you explain the disconnect? Thanks.

amen to that.

Decent?
Considering the work he still does for Habitat For Humanity, I think he's still a decent, Christian man, Rodolfo.
But decent and competent are two different things. Read my post again. Then add to that the fact that he undermined President Clinton's administration, and is now sabotaging President Bush's.
Those of us that were politically aware and lived those years don't like to think of what might lie ahead if this election should turn out a certain way. Obama is also decent, but has indicated he may be another Jimmah.

Buy Gold. Buy ammunition.
It's good insurance.

When you take into account his book, "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid", which is considered by some to be anti-Semitic, I have to wonder where on the decency scale he falls.

But, you're right, Greybeard. He has done a lot of good via the Habitat route. I just wish he'd keep his mouth shut.

Well I'll hold my judgement on President Carter until I learn more about him. If the argument comes down to simply President Carter and Senator Obama being libruls then that won't convince me of their incompetence.

Most people I read (incl you) are saying we're in really bad shape. I was too young to understand either 87 or the tech stock crash in 99 so my mind can't paint a context with what's happening now. Some are saying it's worse. I fear they're right.

Obama/Biden is a gamble. But Palin/McCain is suicide. Should Senator Obama become next year's President some people will say it's because of the economy. That may be true. What people will surely overlook is Obama's *competence*. He's no fluke. He didn't come this close to the highest office in the land because he's incompetent. But Krauthamer finally figured it out. Like Carter I think Senator Obama is decent. Unlike Carter, however, I think Senator Obama is both competent and *RUTHLESS*.

I've been telling my friends and classmates last year Obama *can* win because he has three things going for him:

1. He's white.
2. He's a cash-cow.
3. He's *ruthless*.

Obama has proven he's a guy who gets sh*t done. You can argue that Obama shares the radical views of his associates but the simple fact is that Obama used those people to advance his goals. He knows those people are idiots but if he has to shake their hands once in a while to get sh*t done then he'll do it. But the important thing for me is that nowhere in his record shows any evidence that he will take Wright's racial views and try to pass laws that would favor one race over another. Nowhere in his record shows he will pass laws that would help make it easy for homegrown terrorists to carry out violent acts. Obama used those idiots to get to the top and nothing more. He's neither a terrorist nor a racist. He's a decent, competent AND *ruthless* man.

So who's behind the real Barack Obama? What does he really want? The irrational fear is that he wants to destroy America because he's a secret arab terrorist. Let's be real for a second. Senator Obama wants to be the best and he wants his country to be the best. I believe him when he says he wants to restore America's perception around the world. And that perception matters because we won't be able to get sh*t done without other countries believing in us. Our allies and their people have to trust us again. And yes we have to be able to talk with idiots like Iran if we want to get back on track. Those guys aren't scared of our military. They're taunting us to attack them because they know another war will further destroy our economy.

More importantly it's important to keep in mind that you can't win a gunfight with people who already have bombs strapped to their body. 21st century wars will be won with ideas. Ideas are America's most effective weapon. Lately it seems we've run out of them.

So I think the guy at the top has to be both competent and *ruthless* if we have any chance of putting out the fire. I want to be on that guy's team because I know he will get sh*t done. Ultimately this is not just about our country but our children.

So that's my hope and .02 cents. I think Obama *can* win. I think he *should* win. I think he *must* win. But I'm not completely naive. I know that half of the electorate believe the planet is only 4000 years old and that Adam and Eve walked with dinosaurs.

We're number 1! We're number 1! We're number 1! We're number 1!

Number 1 in what again?

I'm done trying to talk sense.
I'm done trying to show that I've lived this crap and know a little about it.
This is the change I fear. While John Lewis suggests McCain is inciting violence, Mccain supporters are dodging firebombs
Yes Rodolfo, change is coming.
Heaven help us.

I know Greybeard has thrown in the towel here but I have to ask...

On what do you base this belief that Obama is competent? Name one thing he's done since he's been in office that proves he's competent - and running a campaign doesn't count.

Also, what are you using as evidence that he can get things done. Please. Again, fund-raising for the campaign doesn't count.

An Arab terrorist? Where do you get that? My problems with Obama having nothing to do with "Arab terrorists". My problems with campaign start with his inability to tell the truth about his past friendships and end with his being a socialist.

Okay, have you seen what Iran has put out as preconditions before they agree to talk to us? Go find out and then we can talk about this.

Hey, Greybeard, if you'd rather not continue this discussion, feel free to dump this. I do understand. Eventually one gets tired of banging one's head against the wall...

cjh-A blogger by the name of hilzoy laid out a pretty good post about this with links:

http://obsidianwings.blogs.com/obsidian_wings/2006/10/barack_obama.html

Running a campaign may not count to you but the way he's run it is very telling of how he will govern. His demolition of the Clintons in the Primary alone speaks volumes of what he can do. Here's a post from one of my favorite *conservatives*:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/andrew_sullivan/article4925049.ece

Obama's first major decision as his party's CEO proved he's not reckless and is willing to admit his weakness. Had he picked another Clinton I would've been pissed! Senator McCain on the other hand should have been disqualified for picking That One.

And what else do you need to know about the relationships apart from what he has said or what any credible news organization has reported?

I know this blog is about your opinions, but how do you expect anyone to take you seriously when you say things like "you are an idiot" and "shut your pie hole"?

You constantly complain about people who flame in the comments of this blog, but yet put forward such derogatory statements.

I don't even care who that guy is or what he said, I'm sure even if he was a member of the KKK you could find something more intelligent to say than that.

You sound a fox producer.

I knew Rodolfo didn't live through Carter's presidency. I'm thinking scoon doesn't even know who Carter is.

Yes, Carter has done good work through Habitat. Anyone connected with Habitat, because of Habitat's reputation, would be considered a decent person.

Obama has yet to produce anything, besides a campaign, so I'm thinking he's going to continue campaigning if he's elected, since that's all he's ever done.

Unless ya'll have lived as an adult under Carter's leadership, don't belittle the opinion that he is an idiot. Personally, I think Greybeard gave him a little more credit than deserved, as I would have used the word "moron" - idiots can learn, morons are stuck.

I'm getting close to joining up with GB on this topic...

Okay, first, Obama does not run his campaign. He has managers who do that for him. If you think otherwise, you haven't been involved in any sort of political campaign.

Second, there is a history developing with the way Obama deals with his so-called friends that is highly disturbing. It goes like this: we're friends... no, wait, he's just an acquaintance... no, wait, he's just some guy who has kids that go to the same school as my kids...

Obama is about getting elected. There is nothing else to the man that I can see. He says whatever he thinks will fly to whatever group he's speaking to at the time.

If you criticize him, you're a racist, no matter what grounds you're criticizing him on.

It all adds up to a lack of character that I find highly disturbing.

Carter was incompetent as a president. If you can't realize that, you're drinking too much liberal kool-aid.

"Barack is a decent person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States"-John McCain

In case you missed it, Rodolfo, most of us who were going to be voting against Obama decided to vote for Palin, just so no one could criticize us for voting against Obama. Please realize that most of us are STILL not voting for McCain, so anything you try to throw at us with him as the source will be laughed at unmercifully.

You see, most of us are deeply disappointed in how far to the left the Republican party has moved and the candidate that the Repubs have fielded - although less so than with the ticket the Dems have decreed is the best THEY can do. That is why I, for example, am registered as Party Not Declared - so I won't be mistakenly counted as a Republican OR Democrat.

Rodolfo said...

cary-on what basis are you voting for Palin? Any true Conservative with an ounce of objectivity left in them have realized the Palin pick was a farce.

cj-Obama sets the tone. Perhaps Axelrod and Plouffe are the brains behind it all but remember it was Obama that picked them to be on his team. Major decisions ultimately go through him and he's made the right ones so far.

So what about all the other things I pointed you too? None of that counts? These smears about his character are distractions. If you really want to go there then why the silence on Palin's associations and shenanigans? You're telling me you're ready to vote for someone you've known less than five weeks?

Our country's burning. We have real sh*t to talk about and important decisions to make. Why is the country still debating whether a hockey mom is ready to be the President? A Palin presidency would make us the laughingstock of the world.

A couple of points of clarification:

1. Yes I am a registered voter. I do not live in the United States (yes, there are other countries in the world! Imagine that!). Where I live everyone over the age of 18 must be registered to vote. I have always taken pride in that privilege.

2. I do indeed know who Jimmy Carter is. I didn't recognise him at the time of posting - you must admit, he has aged a fair bit - however that doesn't change my point which was:

3. Regardless of what your opinion of the man or his actions are, I find it amusing that you slam him so unintelligently.

I have no actual interest in the matter at hand as, I stated before I don't live in the US and am merely watching the election with curiosity and not a vested interest (despite the fact that many Americans consider that their policies lead the direction of the world stage).

I just think it ridiculous that you consider "shut your pie hole" to be high political commentary, let alone anything that anyone would care to read.

Greybeard said...

"...high political commentary..."

Uhh... what?!

You first. What about Obama's part in the Fannie and Freddie mess that have this country in so much trouble?

What about his refusal to answer any questions about his past directly? He's doing the same damn thing now with ACORN - disassociating himself and the media, along with kool-aid drinkers like you, swallow it hook, line, and sinker.

What about the private meeting he had with Islamic leaders in Dearborn several months ago? Do you know what was discussed or promised? I don't and I think we should.

What about his desire to 'redistribute the wealth'? You okay with him giving your money to the poor - or are you one of the ones on the receiving end?

You're making assumptions that you in no way can know if they're true or not. You have no idea what I know about Sarah Palin or how long I've followed her career. The only people who are still attacking Governor Palin are the liberals. If they'd stop, it wouldn't be a distraction any more, would it?

And I thought it was President Bush who made us a laughing stock of the world...

Oh, and btw, Scoon - Greybeard's comment certainly has had you reading, hasn't it?

Obama is a socialist and for the first time in my life I can honestly say I'm worried about the future of our country.
