I bought 'em in 1967 from a friend that took a part-time job selling 'em... Collier's Encyclopedias. They're taking up space I could be using for other things. Problem is, I'm not sure anyone wants them. I hate to just throw them away, but I don't think they'd produce a lot of BTU's in the fireplace!
Ideas?

Donate them--Salvation Army, local church or other similar org.
Greybeard . . .
By now most people have forgotten that Colliers was a fairly good magazine similar to the more popular Saturday Evening Post. When it died I missed the cartoons. Don't you think that sometime during the last 50 years the internet rendered encyclopedias obsolete? I vote for the fireplace. . .
Find a friend that is testing rifle loads. Old books soaked in water to the saturation point make great media to shoot into.
On another note, here a helicopter related story I thought you might find interesting:

Precisely. Donations to your favorite LOCAL charities and not the behemoths such as United Way, which squander cash on executives.

I good idea, ASM, but we have a Goodwill store right here in our little town... don't know why I didn't think of that first. Thanks TWD and BZ.
GG, I had forgotten about "Collier's Mag". My family subscribed to "The Saturday Evening Post" and I remember "The Perfect Squelch" there. What a shame those, and the Encyclopedias have been destroyed by the convenience of the internet.
(But now that we have it, would you want to give it up?)
Me neither!
Ever hear of "altered books"? These would be perfect for such a project. I would hate to burn them or throw them into the trash.
Recycle them!
2nd option: Ebay auction!!
I've alway thought that they would make excellent insulation if building a cabin using Adobe. Encycopedias should be cheap enough and cheaper than other insulations. Should work well.
Fly and I have seriously discussed "Packing Heat". We might need targets for practice.

Got a place to shoot, Bo?
I'd love to shoot some fearsome tin cans with ya!
Oh, I'm sure you would! Fly and I must find a place for us to meet up. We will all have a great time.
Since I'm going to Arizona soon, I think that would be a great place. And just think, Clint would fit in so well with the group.
Bo
p.s. you are a VERY brave man
Let me tell ya somethin' gal...
Properly trained, a woman with a gun is a deadly thing.
If you've had no training, get some... you'll thoroughly enjoy it.
If you HAVE had training, I bet you shoot better than me!
Are there any schools out there that cannot afford computers?
Disabled Vets is always another choice.
