And if you do, skip this one.
I'm always trying to "think ahead of the aircraft".
And that attitude has been a positive effect my entire life.
There's a little old lady lives just down the street from us.
She's about 80, cute; in good health, and she's smart enough to maintain her distance from us when we stop to converse.
After a conversation with her the other night I was "thinking ahead".
... If I'm a guy with a family and kids, and my kids get hungry... and there's nothin' but dust in my wallet, what am I gonna do?
Initially I'll try to find help that's available.
Government will be handing out goodies.
If I belong to a Church, they might help.
Good Samaritan neighbors might also work together.
But if this thing lasts a long time, those venues might start drying up.
Then what?
I don't know about you, but if my kids are crying and hungry, I'm gonna find A WAY.
And little old ladies in reasonably affluent neighborhoods might just be an attractive target.
I hope she is prepared. Next time we chat with her, although I hate to do it, I may scare her just a little bit.
You don't need to be scared.
Remember the mantra:
Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.

At age 75, I might make a tempting target. Might get some use out of the CC Permit.
I often consider how much I'm willing to give up to help others, yet not harm my own.
And yet, how long do I want to live with myself, not having helped others?
And yet, there's the parable of the foolish and wise virgins.
Oh, inventory wise, I'm only low on .38, but that was always practice ammo for the .357 and I have a case of that.
More 7.62 than .223, but that's not a problem either.
But if I have to trade for toilet paper...
Still no "refills" for the new AR, Ed.
I haven't beaten the bushes frantically yet.
I too have plenty of .38 to use in its big brother piece.
We just need to get home.
And helping others?
For me, that will likely depend on how much I know they've tried to help themselves.
I'm an "Ant".
Roger that.
You left off, and carry a .45... just sayin...
My brother, you, as an excellent writer, should know better than most:
"Prepare for the worst" assumes you are prepared for the worst! :)
I'm thinking of imitating Patton-
Western leather with my .45 on one hip, my .44Mag on the other.
Whatdya think?
We made a mistake when we came to our Arizona home this time. We didn't think we'd be here for a year. We thought we'd be back to the cattle/sheep ranch. Now it all changed and although we have revolvers, we didn't bring the shotgun or rifle. It turns out it's not easy to buy guns if you don't live in a state. So much for the talk of guns being too available. We don't really want the shotgun for defense-- the revolvers would take care of that. We were more thinking if the world goes nuts after this we might want to hunt. I think some of our thinking of being prepared comes from parents who went through the Depression.
Rain-
Once again I'll point to government "Nanny" behavior exhibited by your problem.
You'd have NO difficulty buying your shotgun legally at home. You live here several months during the year. Shouldn't you be able to legally purchase in AZ, (a relatively gun-friendly State)?
We need MUCH LESS Nanny in our lives.
You'd think and I was surprised since AZ is an open carry state. I have a concealed weapon permit, which works for that but not for buying a gun. We can get an ID that would let us buy one but who wants to stand in line right now? We will likely have to get AZ driver's licenses etc. because our son is going to take over the ranch and the house there, which means we will be here more than 7 months. I am not in a hurry to do the switch though since we can vote by mail in Oregon, which I like. Although I might like voting in AZ since surprising as this might be to you, I'll be voting for trump unless something changes drastically... and no way would that vote count in OR.
Vote for Trump?
Look... I never accused you of being stupid.
I knew you weren't.
I don't know how long it would take to do it now, but I got an AZ "Travel ID" by being at the DMV when the doors opened. The whole process, (filling out paperwork and having an ID pic taken), took less that 20 minutes.
I recommend it.
Good luck on your purchase. Gonna buy Mossberg, Remington, or Winchester?
Oh, and by the way Rain-
You'll need to show proof of your residency here with a couple bills paid with your name on 'em, and a gov. issued photo ID.
We have passports and have owned this home since 1999 with the records, etc. I still love Oregon though but our son needs it more than us. As for the make, that'll be up to RanchBoss. He might need a new name down here lol
All that paper work to exercise a Constitutional Right.
Arghhhhh.
"If we can just save ONE life", Ed.
And... "Think of the children!"
I'm sure you can thing of a few more.
"Think of the old people" is coming into vogue...
