"I bet you don't own a gun, (Vi)."
"No, I don't!"
(I take this to mean "not NO, but HELL NO!")
"(The ex-husband) had one."
"You may need one in the future."
"If it comes to that, I'd just as soon die at the other end of the barrel."
Of course if she's honest about that, and knowing what I know of her she may very well be, then she's entitled to do whatever makes her comfortable. Being a victim seems to be comfortable for her.
But it's a crazy, crazy world. It sure seems to me that having more tools... more options rather than fewer, is the better plan. When it comes to violence, women, smaller and less strong, start the game at a disadvantage. The right tool, used properly, "levels the playing field".
So if you live in Florida, a Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) State, why aren't you taking the course and getting that license? Having another option could be the difference between life and death.
...Or you can just be a victim.
...Whatever makes you comfortable.

Cruel Joke of the day:
An assistant professor walks into a meeting with colleagues and says, "Ha! You call yourselves intelligent? Wouldn't REALLY intelligent people know not to come to a gunfight armed with nothing but pencils?!"
And yet, there's MORE!
Here's a guy that obviously LOVES his Valentine!

My wife does not think she could get on the trigger and take someones life, even if she felt that her life was in danger.
That is why she does not have the combo to the safe or to the pistol box.
She also knows that I would have little problem with using lethal force if required and has no problem with my doing so should the situation warrant it.
Maybe that is one reason why she is married to me.
You obviously no longer have kids at home, Capt.!
I cannot imagine "Mama bear" being able to make a comment like that if she still had little ones under the roof...
(Think "Charles Manson".)
My home, at one time, was an arsenal and I was a crack shot with all of them. They were AT HOME. LOCKED UP. All the policeman knew me because I worked on the fire department and one of them asked if I was "carrying". I answered "No. But I have a CW license."
He said: "What good would the license do if your life was in jeopardy and your gun was at home?"
hmmmm.
Dana, it's funny how I can generally sense right off when someone is "my kinda gal".
I've had that feeling about you since I started reading your blog. You just verified my suspicions!
Some people REALLY have no concept of reality UNTIL it hits them personally. I include many or most Liberals in this corral.
I've always been a fan of the following yard sign for certain Liberal homes:
"LIBERAL RESIDENTS WITHIN DECLARE THIS HOME TO BE FIREARMS & WEAPONS FREE."
Called putting their lives where their mouths are.
