870P? If it is, you're going to love it. I bought a used State Police 870 and sent it to Scattergun Technologies, who put a mag extension on it, restocked and re-parkerized it and installed a low-vis bead on it. It's probably not as nice as your new one, but it comes pretty close. A go-to-war gun for sure.
When I was a small town cop, instead of at a university, I'd have to go on alarms at places like supermarkets in the middle of the night. They were usually false, but when I was by myself, I'd some times take the shotgun in with me and after stepping inside, I would rack it. The sound echoed nicely throughout the building and was my way of introducing myself and my friend to anyone who might be inside.
Capt and CJ- Bought it mostly for Sara Jean who obviously spends a great deal of time alone at night with only a 12 pound dog providing "early warning" of danger. And I told her the same thing you indicated CJ... All she has to do is rack that action, CLICK, CLACK!!... And anyone downstairs from our loft bedroom will realize they're at the wrong address. Schmoe, I've never heard anything bad about the 870... Thanks for your positive feedback.
Fantastic home defense weapon. Great choice. You'll have to look for a long time before you find someone that will say anything bad about an 870 pump. It just works and keeps on working.
The only 'gun I enjoyed shooting more than the 870 was a prototype full-auto 12 gauge.
The 870's clearing of it's throat is impressive. I know that if were on nefarious business I wouldn't stick around to see if they had really racked one into the chamber...
Geez, this sounds like a great business plan to me. Make a deal with Bose speakers, replicate the sound of the Click Clack and you have a Panic Button for those of us not capable of actually handling a shotgun.
I could even invent a portable, purse-size one that would throw the sound behind someone's back.
Now, don't steal my idea. This could let me retire early.
Your point is well taken Rita, and with their quality sound reproduction, Bose might actually pull it off. But you can't put food on the table with a sound reproduction device, can you? The shotgun provides more utility in today's uncertain times.
And you CAN handle a shotgun! Are you 5 feet tall? Weigh more than 85 pounds? My next door neighbor had a .410 shotgun when he was 12, and probably was about that height/weight. Little recoil, but nevertheless would be something an outlaw would not want to have pointed at them.

Oh yeah. As was said, the soun of the racking has been known to induce heart attacks in vermin..

ANYONE can handle a shotgun - as long as you aren't on the receiving team.
Ahhh GB, you said the magic word "recoil". I'm pretty much a wimp on that stuff.
Now if I had some jackass entering my house and I only had a rifle, I bet that I wouldn't fear a little recoil then.
Looks a lot like my Winchester Model 1300 (Defender), except for the stock. Happy hunting!!
