Dr. Dan, You Da Man!

I've been pokin' around the 'net tryin' to find an answer to Lucy's body odor problem. My search led me to a Vet's interesting site, although I still haven't found my answer.

I referred earlier to the fact that one site claimed Shih Tzu's were a coupling of the Llhasa Apso and Pekingese, and I joked that we should work towards legitimizing the "Schnoodle"...
the Poodle-Schnauzer mix.

Dr. Dan has come up with some mixes that would make interesting future AKC breeds.
Some of them made me laugh out loud!:

Collie + Lhasa Apso
Collapso, a dog that folds up for easy transport

Spitz + Chow Chow
Spitz-Chow, a dog that throws up a lot

Pointer + Setter
Poinsetter, a traditional Christmas pet

Malamute + Pointer
Moot Point, owned by....oh, well, it doesn't matter anyway

Great Pyrenees + Dachshund
Pyradachs, a puzzling breed

Pekingnese + Lhasa Apso
Peekasso, an abstract dog

Irish Water Spaniel + English Springer Spaniel
Irish Springer, a dog fresh and clean as a whistle

Labrador Retriever + Curly Coated Retriever
Lab Coat Retriever, the choice of research scientists

Newfoundland + Basset Hound
Newfound Asset Hound, a dog for financial advisors

Terrier + Bulldog
Terribull, a dog that makes awful mistakes

Bloodhound + Labrador
Blabador, a dog that barks incessantly

Collie + Malamute
Commute, a dog that travels to work

Deerhound + Terrier
Derriere, a dog that's true to the end

Bull Terrier + Shitzu
Bull..... Oh, never mind

In your original post about Lucy's odor, you had a link in your comments titled "not so bad" and I clicked on that and at the end of the article he had these "new breeds" and I was reading them and I thought "is this a joke?" I was kind of skimming over them quickly and saw the great pyranees/dachshund mix and I said to myself - NO WAY!

Then I realized it was a joke! Duh!
I was laughing my head off.

This is so funny! Thanks GB.

However, I have a thought (which is dangerous). When pets come back from doing their business, they must have a small about of fresh anal gland stuff on the outside of the sphincter. Also, the anal glands might contract even when the pooch just takes a leak --- muscles and nerves of the pelvic floor of humans do a lot of complicated things ,,,it might be true in canines too.

The anal gland stuff (man oh man is that stuff pungent) seems to be very important to other canines, I mean it's the first thing they check out in another dog. It seems logical they would refresh their personal ID card every chance they could.

Maybe you can teach Miss Stinky Butt to use toilet paper? Maybe some of those baby wipes?

Well, I know it isn't a good idea, it is just ONE idea.

The canine business card?
I'm glad we humans print ours!

I agree with all you say, PT, but I am quite familiar with that smell, and this is a TOTALLY different odor... more like human B.O...
It's just nasty!
And the anal gland smell is related to skunk odor, therefore it is persistent... wouldn't go away so quickly. This smell disappears in a hurry, Thank God!

I'm still searching, hoping someone will point me in the right direction.

Are you sure it isn't a ear or tooth thing? Does she have any contact dermatitis going on? Check between her paws. Is she doing any chewing or licking?
yeah, there's no problem telling the anal sac smell from any other a dog might have. lol.
Is she rolling in anything particular in the yard that smells really yummy to her?
We will succeed in finding the cause of this problem GB.

GH, she's not rolling in anything. After the loss of our first Dachshund, Frankie, we are pretty careful about keeping Lucy on a short leash, figuratively. We watch her like a hawk.
This smell is a chemical reaction between the environment and her skin or fur, made an even bigger mystery because our friend's Shi Tzu has the same problem... same type odor.
