"Shoot Him In The Face"

"What do you think of this 'Bond Arms' derringer?", I asked my friend the M.D..
"If you're gonna use one for home defense, shoot him in the face", he said.

My friend the Doc is hard core. We're on exactly the same page about the direction our country has chosen and he, like me, is preparing for ugliness as quickly as time and money will allow.

This looks like a versatile little gun. It's chambered to shoot either .410 shotgun shells or .45 Long Colt cartridges. You can also buy other, easily switchable barrels in other calibers as shown in the article here at Gunblast.com.
Me? I think the .410/.45 Colt version would suit me just fine.
Anyone have any experience with this derringer?

Shoot him in the face?
Messy...
Wouldn't want to do that in my living room.

I imagine the muzzle blast would cauterize the wound - at least on the front.....

Personally, I look at the tiny mass of it, think about how much kick .45 and .410 have, and wince while wondering accurate it's going to be while kicking you in the hand.

But that's not an informed opinion - I'll see if my Calmer Half has shot one, or something similar, for an actual opinion worth anything.

Personally, I'd rather be cleaning up a messy living room, patching drywall and repainting, than failing to stop an intruder. Besides, I've wanted to repaint a different color anyway. Still, I go for center mass - figure I'll be shaking with adrenaline, and a head is a smaller, faster-moving target.

Most my purchases are based on how loud the gun is......if by chance I miss, I'll scare the begebbers outta them!!

I always strive to to find something that sounds close to Dirty Harry's 44 mag ;-)

SO, Mebbe I'd lean towards a 410.

I saw a single shot 410 pistol once almost bought it but then, thought the 175 bux for it was a bit pricey and walked away from it. I don't recall who made the thing.

Maybe you can help ME. My .357 Colt is getting kind of heavy for me and I was wondering about a small Beretta or a small Glock. I mostly worry about (1) it's accuracy, (2) the barrel heating up (3) the caliber.

I'd do a chest shot. The kick would place it neck high if not head high.

On the other hand, a crotch aim would give a grand belly wound that would definitely sting a bit while I was S*L*O*W*L*Y dialing the sheriff.

I bought a Glock 26 for Sara Jean last year, Dana. We like it a lot.
It's accurate, recoil isn't bad, ammo is plentiful, and it's easy to carry/conceal.
Check the reviews on it, then find a range where you can rent a couple candidate pistols and actually fire them yourself.
Keep the .357 as a backup. Buy lots of ammo for both.

Calmer Half and Housemate identified the gun on sight, and both state very firmly that it kicks harder than a .500 Winchester, is brutal, and leaves marks. "Very concealable, but it is brutal, and only has two shots. Not a viable defense gun."

As Housemate(who tops 6' 2") says, "I can shoot .50AE out of a desert Eagle all day long, but I have no desire to shoot that again. They make a .38 special, and even that hurts - it feels like .357 magnum in that thing."

Nothing like first-hand knowledge to maybe change my mind about a purchase, W&W.
Thank you.

Glock, Glock, and more Glock.

Reliable beyond belief...

Same trigger pull every time....

Real defensive / offensive calibers....

The standard "standard" for most police departments nationwide.....

More inherent accuracy than most shooters can use.....

Many holsters made so you can safely and comfortably CARRY the weapon...because if it is not ON you when you need it, obviously it is useless at the time you need it the most.

My opinion is obvious and comes from years of carrying, training and associating with armed individuals from many different disciplines, civilian and otherwise. IMHO, once mastered, the Safe Action trigger is unsurpassed in defensive "combat" use. Since you own one already you know some of this. I would say a Glock 19 or 23 if you think you "need" .40 cal but the 9mm is more shootable and arguably ammunition is more plentiful and cheaper. With the proper loading 9mm will more than do the job.

That's kind of a cute little gun.

When in Patrol, I carried a Sig P220 .45 cal with the Euro release. Single stack mag, with FOUR other mags arrayed horizontally on my Sam Browne.

In my boot, I carried a Charter Arms Bulldog Pug in .44 caliber, 5-shots, bobbed trigger, blued, stacked with SilverTips. I also had a double-speedloader case on my belt that no one seemed to notice.

When I was in Warrants and I approached a door and/or spoke to someone I doubted, my right hand gripped this same Bulldog pug in a Banana Republic vest pocket. If you'd thought of pulling some shit on me, whilst you were stupid enough to think I was "relaxed," I'd have shot you dead right in the gut or chest. With a BIG round. Kinda makes me smile.

I still carry this gun today. When I go "train-chasing" up in the mountains, I carry a beautiful 15" Bowie knife in a way-custom shoulder rig directly behind my back. I also carry my Bulldog Pug in a pocket and, on Bad Days, my 6.5" Model 29 with Hogue grips on my left side. Liars and tigers and bears, oh my.

Yours has a nice hole. I like my bigger hole.

P.S.
When I carry off duty any more, I carry a revolver. I don't want casings spanging all over. And I like the Big Hole.
