You'll appreciate this one GB. Had a buddy that weighed in at almost 300 pounds. He had a Harley with a magneto....I watched one time when the mag setting was a bit off as it just about launched his big butt over the handle bars when it kicked back on him!!
My dad had an old tractor and I remember him cranking the shit out of that thing getting it started. My old Honda had both kick starter and electric. I like having both options in case you have a weak battery.
My father had a 1930's vintage Caterpillar about a D4 size he loved. Gas powered, crank start, with a compression release and individual hand primer tubes. Once you got the beast to start, it had to run for ten minutes before you could put it back into compression mode.
I would hitch a team, feed the cows, unhitch the team and be back in the house while he was still messing with it.

Farmer that worked the land (our working for him was part of the "rental contract" ...) had a tractor that required a hand crank to start the two cylinder gas motor that was the slave starter for the diesel engine.

My TR-3A had a hand-crank, too. Never used it, though....

Ahhh, well I see all you old guys are older than me. But CnC did remind me of dad cranking the old tractor.
You never know, cranks may come back. No battery needed? The tree huggers would love that on their Smart Cars and Mini-Coopers.
