He was in the Naval Amphibious Corp from Guadacanal (See 'Voyage of the 159' written by his skipper) on through the rest of the war in the Pacific, Gilberts, Solomons, Phillipines and preparing for the Invasion of Japan. On one of his trips through Pearl Harbor he got a rose tattoo on his left Forearm with his sister's name in it (smart man).
